Angela's Lake Chelan Senior Session Along the Columbia River

Some sessions you can feel coming together before you even lift the camera.

Angela's was one of those. She made the drive all the way from Bonney Lake with her sister and her boyfriend along for the day, and from the first few frames it was clear she was going to be game for anything.

Confident, easygoing, and so ready to play. This was a Signature session, and we used every bit of that golden evening light.

Chasing the Right Light

We started at the Beebe Bridge overlook, one of my favorite spots along the Columbia. The view is unreal, but when we pulled in the sun was still high and far too bright for the soft, dreamy look I wanted for Angela. So we did what you do: we moved. About half a mile up the road we found a pocket of open shade tucked into the sagebrush, and that is where the magic happened.

The light went buttery and even, the kind that makes skin glow and lets a real expression breathe. Angela settled right in. We worked the weathered desert trees, the wildflowers, and that gorgeous green wall of brush behind her that I genuinely cannot stop looking at.

Here is the part that tells you everything about Angela: she wanted to do the entire shoot barefoot. On fairly weedy, scrubby ground. She did not flinch once. That kind of quiet toughness shows up in the photos, in the way she carried herself and held a pose like she had been doing this forever.

Golden Hour on the Overlook

As the sun dropped, we worked our way out onto the rocks above the river. The whole canyon turned warm and glowy, and Angela in that lace dress against the water below was just stunning.

Wading In at Franks Pond

For the last stretch we headed over to Franks Pond, a little fishing spot off the highway right on the Columbia. Angela changed into a casual look, and then she did the thing I always hope a senior will be brave enough to do: she walked straight into the water.

To close the day, we grabbed a few with the people who made the drive with her. A sweet set with her boyfriend, and a couple with her sister right at the water's edge. The kind of photos you keep long after the cap and gown are packed away.

Angela, thank you for trusting me with your senior year, for the bare feet and the cold water and the whole adventurous, lovely day. You made it easy.

Planning Your Own Senior Session

If you are a senior (or a parent of one) looking for portraits that actually feel like you, this is exactly what I love to do. We will scout the light, chase the good spots around Lake Chelan and the Columbia, and build a session around your personality, whether that is barefoot in the sage or wading into a pond at golden hour.

You can see more of my work on the Portrait Photography page, browse other senior sessions on the blog, and take a peek at Shay's summer senior session in Manson for another dose of golden-hour goodness.

Ready to plan yours? Reach out here and let's find a date. I would love to tell your story.
