5 Easy Posing Tips to Look Confident in Your Brand Photos

If the thought of stepping in front of a camera makes you want to crawl under a table—you're not alone.

Most of my clients start by telling me some version of:
“I’m just not photogenic,”
or
“I never know what to do with my hands…”

But here’s the truth: looking confident in your brand photos isn’t about being perfect—it’s about knowing a few simple tricks that shift your energy from stiff to stunning.

In this post, I’m walking you through 5 easy, natural posing tips I use with every client to help them feel more relaxed and look beautifully themselves on camera. And yes—I've included photos of me demonstrating each one, because I truly believe in showing up alongside you, not just directing from behind the lens.

1. The “Turtleneck” Trick

Confidence starts at the jawline.
It might feel awkward, but gently pushing your chin forward and down helps define your face and elongate the neck in photos. This small adjustment can dramatically upgrade your side profiles and headshots.

🔗 Tip: Practice this in the mirror while keeping your shoulders relaxed. It’s a subtle shift that reads beautifully in-camera.

2. Create an S-Curve With Your Body

When I direct a client into an “S-curve,” I’m inviting them into their natural softness.

By shifting your weight to one leg, dropping a shoulder, and gently letting your hip follow, you create a beautiful, flowing shape that flatters every body type.

💬 This is my favorite go-to when someone says “I feel awkward just standing here.

3. Hands With Intention

Most people freeze when they don’t know what to do with their hands—so I give them a purpose.

Touching your hair, holding a prop, adjusting a sleeve… these are tiny movements that bring life into your posture.

Bonus: Movement helps regulate nerves. Just by moving, you’ll feel more grounded.

4. Angle Your Body, Not Your Face

Facing the camera straight-on can flatten your frame and feel intimidating.

Instead, turn your shoulders and hips slightly to the side, then look back toward the camera. This creates shape, adds dimension, and keeps your connection strong.

💡 Think: soft twist, eyes forward.

5. Elongate One Leg

This is one of the simplest ways to lengthen your posture—whether you’re seated or standing.

Step one foot forward, shift your weight back, and point your toe slightly. This creates beautiful lines and softens your stance without feeling too “posey.”

BONUS TIP: Bring a Prop

Holding something grounds your hands and tells part of your brand story. Whether it's a mug, notebook, journal, or your favorite product, props instantly add natural movement and help you feel less “on display.”
